Beach Flat, The Granary, Elie, East Neuk, Fife

Elie is part of the picturesque East Neuk of Fife. 'Neuk' is the old Scots word for corner, and the East Neuk is the name given to the area of land that runs around the Eastern peninsula of Fife. Whether it is sitting in the sand, strolling along the coast, playing golf on a nearby links course or finding a cosy corner in the local pub, Elie is a great place to unwind.

The flat is located at the end of the pier in the harbour, 50m from a Blue Flag accredited beach. There are two bedrooms, one double, one bunk-room and a sofa bed to cater for the weary or slightly lost. The usual creature comforts abound: fluffy towels, smelly soaps, a cupboard full of books and games, underfloor heating and a fully equipped kitchen. Please note though there is no TV. This is a conscious decision and hopefully removes access to the woes of an increasingly gloomy world.

Step outside the flat and the Elie Watersports Centre is less than a minute's walk where you can hire dingys, windsurf equipment, canoes and wet suits. The nearest pub, The Ship Inn, is but a short stumble down the pier and few minutes further is the high street, with local shops to cover most necessities - baker, newsagent, grocer, chemist (originally my great grandfather's) and deli amongst others. Continue walking towards the far end of Elie to Earlsferry, (merely the other end of the village) and you'll come to the Sports Club and Elie House Golf Club. Aside from golf, on the smart 18 holer or the easy going 9 holer, there are tennis courts and a putting green to keep you occupied.

If you still feel the need to stretch your legs, there are a number of walks worth doing. The Chain Walk, because you are literally holding on by chains, takes you round the rockier coast line and if done at high tide can be quite exciting. Back by the flat, there is a very pleasant walk to St Monans along the shore line which can be rewarded by a lunch at the highly recommended Fish Restaurant located right on the St Monans' harbour.
